Introduction

Slate ("we", "our", or "us") operates the slatebuilder.io website and the Slate eLearning authoring platform (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

By using Slate, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the Service.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and any profile information you choose to provide. We use this information to create and manage your account, provide customer support, and communicate with you about the Service.

Content You Create

We store the eLearning courses and content you create using Slate. This content is yours—we do not review, analyze, or use your content for any purpose other than providing the Service to you. Your content is isolated and secured using row-level security, meaning only you can access your courses.

If you create a public preview link for a course, anyone with that link can view the course content. Public previews are designed for sharing and do not require authentication.

Usage Data

We automatically collect certain information when you access the Service, including your IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and time spent on pages. This helps us understand how the Service is used and how we can improve it.

On our marketing website (slatebuilder.io), we use Microsoft Clarity and Google Ads to understand how visitors interact with our site and to measure advertising effectiveness. Clarity may collect data such as mouse movements, clicks, and scroll behavior. Google Ads may collect data about your visits for conversion tracking and remarketing purposes. This analytics data is not collected within the Slate application itself, only on our public marketing pages.

Our free signup form uses Cloudflare Turnstile for bot protection. Turnstile may collect device and browser information to verify you are a real user. This data is processed by Cloudflare only during signup and is not collected within the Slate application. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Location Data

On our marketing website, we use a third-party geolocation service (ipapi.co) to detect your approximate location based on your IP address. This is used solely to display pricing in your local currency (e.g., USD for United States, CAD for Canada). We do not store your location data—it is used only at the time of your visit to determine currency display. You can override the detected currency using the currency selector in the website footer, and your preference is saved locally in your browser.

Payment Information

Payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your credit card number or full payment details on our servers. Stripe's privacy policy governs the collection and use of your payment information.

Email Communications

When you create a free account, you are automatically enrolled in a short onboarding email sequence (up to 5 emails) delivered via MailerLite. These emails are part of the service and help you get started with Slate. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. We share your email address, display name, and user role with MailerLite for this purpose. See MailerLite's privacy policy.

We also send transactional emails (account verification, password resets, and account recovery) via Resend. Only your email address and the message content are shared with Resend. See Resend's privacy policy.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) Integration (Standard and Pro)

Slate offers an MCP server that allows third-party AI assistants (such as Claude) to interact with your Slate account on your behalf. It has its own authentication, data access, and security practices. For full details, see our Slate MCP privacy policy.

Voice Generation

All subscribers can generate course narration using Google Cloud Text-to-Speech. Pro subscribers also have access to ElevenLabs premium voices. When you use voice generation, the text content of the block being narrated is sent to the selected provider for audio generation. The generated audio is stored in your Slate account. No other course content, personal information, or account data is shared with voice providers.

Canva App Integration

Slate for Canva is a Canva marketplace app that converts presentations into eLearning courses. It has its own data collection and processing practices. For full details, see our Slate for Canva privacy policy.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
• Process transactions and send related information
• Send you technical notices, updates, and support messages
• Respond to your comments, questions, and customer service requests
• Monitor and analyze usage patterns to improve user experience
• Detect, prevent, and address technical issues and security threats

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard practices. We use encrypted connections and row-level security to ensure your content is isolated and protected. Our application is hosted on infrastructure that provides DDoS protection and secure content delivery.

While we implement appropriate security measures, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We only share your information in the following limited circumstances:

• Service Providers: We share data with third-party vendors who assist us in operating the Service. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information:

  • Anthropic (Claude) — MCP assistant access for Standard and Pro subscribers (user-initiated only, no PII exposed)

• Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property.
• Business Transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Export your content at any time using our SCORM export feature

Cookies

Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 16, we will take steps to delete that information.

International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have different data protection laws. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to these countries.

Data Retention

We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information and course content within 30 days, except where we are required to retain data for legal or regulatory purposes.

When you export a course, the package is generated in your browser and downloaded directly to your device. We do not store copies of your exported files on our servers.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
