Who qualifies

Registered nonprofits and charities are eligible. We verify your registration number when you apply, and again each year at renewal.

Eligible

  • Registered charities and nonprofits with a government-issued registration number
  • US 501(c)(3) organizations with an EIN
  • Canadian registered charities and nonprofits with a CRA number
  • UK registered charities with a Charity Commission number
  • Recognized nonprofit or charity equivalents in other countries, where you can provide a registration number

Not eligible

  • For-profit companies, sole proprietors, and individuals

Frequently asked questions

The questions nonprofits ask most before applying.

What counts as a nonprofit?
Registered charities and nonprofits with a government-issued registration number. That includes US 501(c)(3) organizations, Canadian registered charities and nonprofits, UK registered charities, and recognized equivalents elsewhere. We verify the number against the relevant public registry.
What if we are new or not registered yet?
Apply anyway. If you do not have a registration number yet, tell us about your organization and the work you do, and we will review your application case by case. We do our own due diligence on every application, so a missing registration number does not automatically rule you out.
What do I need to apply?
Your organization's legal name, country, registration or charity number, website, and the email you will use for your Slate account.
Do I have to wait to be approved before I can start?
New free signups are paused right now, so most nonprofits start once their code arrives. We verify your application and email your nonprofit discount code within two business days. Subscribe to Standard, enter the code at checkout, and your nonprofit rate applies immediately. If you already have a Slate account, you can keep building while you wait.
What happens after the first year?
Your nonprofit rate renews at the same price each year. We re-confirm your registration once a year at renewal.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. You can pay monthly or annually, whichever suits your budget. Either way you get the full Standard plan at your nonprofit rate.
We need Pro, not Standard. Does the discount still apply?
Standard covers what most nonprofits need, so it is where we point you first. If your team needs Pro, the same nonprofit discount applies there too. Just mention it when you apply and we will set you up.
Does Slate offer a discount for nonprofits and charities?
Yes. Verified nonprofits and charities get the full Slate Standard plan at a reduced flat rate of $20 USD per month, billed monthly or annually, and it renews at the same price each year. Once we verify your registration, we email your nonprofit discount code, which you enter at checkout to subscribe at your nonprofit rate.
What kind of training can nonprofits build with Slate?
Anything you deliver as a course: volunteer onboarding, compliance and safety training, program delivery, and board or donor education. Slate's AI helps turn material you already have into a structured course you refine in the editor, then publish as mobile-friendly courses for any device.
Can nonprofits build and export SCORM courses?
Yes. Every nonprofit plan includes all of Slate's export formats: SCORM, xAPI, cmi5, HTML, PDF, and Word, so your courses work in any LMS. No LMS yet? Export a self-contained HTML package you can host anywhere.
Do you offer nonprofit pricing outside Canada and the US?
Yes. Registered nonprofits and charities anywhere can apply, as long as you can provide a government-issued registration number. We verify US 501(c)(3) EINs, Canadian CRA numbers, UK Charity Commission numbers, and recognized equivalents in other countries.
